Clear Web Browser History Internet Explorer 6

In Web Browser History we discussed why you might want to limit the amount of web browser history is kept in your web browser.

Internet Explorer web browser history can be set up to limit the amount of web browser history. To learn how to do this see our Internet Explorer Web Browser History article.

The web browser history in Internet Explorer can be cleared at any time. This would be useful when testing a website or blog as it is being built and testing the links on a page.

To Clear Web Browser History in Internet Explorer 6:

  1. Click Tools in the top menu bar of Internet Explorer 6.
  2. Select Internet Options from the list that appears.

The Internet Options dialog box appears.

  3. Make sure the General tab is selected.
  4. The third section down is called History. In this section there is a Clear History button. Click it.
  5. A dialog box will pop up asking you to confirm that you wish to delete your web browser history, click Yes.
  6. An hour glass will appear indicating that the history is being deleted. This may take a while if you have done lots of surfing.
  7. When the hour glass disappears your web browser history has been cleared. Click Ok to close the Internet Options dialog box.

Now, when you or someone else views the History in Internet Explorer 6 the list of sites visited will be empty. Once the browser is reopened or if you continue to surf after clearing the web browser history the web browser history list is rebuilt.
